the report on Public Entertainment and the interferences of the Department of Culture in the urban space in São Paulo
Abstract
The Department of Culture was created in 1935 under the government of Fábio Prado in São Paulo. It was directed by Mário de Andrade, and it encompassed several relations with the city, including the one of Public Entertainment. The area was not only of interest to the Department, but it also directly interfered in urban relations and in fighting prostitution with the Customs Police. This article, therefore, intends to shed light on these interferences and the developments of the Public Entertainment division after Prado left the city hall.
