Author Guidelines

The submission guidelines are in accordance with the standards of high-level indexed journals as well as the most recent versions of the OJS 3+ platform. Accordingly, the following rules are described below:

Revista Thésis uses an online article submission system through the OJS platform. Article submission is on a rolling basis and open-topic, always considering the journal’s policy and editorial line. Contributions will be accepted for the Articles and Reviews sections and will be submitted to evaluation by the journal’s Ad-Hoc peer reviewers. Proposals must observe the following:

a) submitted articles must be unpublished;

b) the accepted languages for publication are Portuguese, Spanish, and English. Regardless of the original language of the text, the author must provide, as indicated in the template, the title, abstract, and keywords in all three languages;

c) if the article is accepted for publication, the author will be responsible for translating it into English (in the case of articles already submitted in English, the author may choose either Portuguese or Spanish);

d) reviews (Resenhas) must be up to 10 pages and articles (Ensaios) up to 18 pages;

e) any images included must be copyright-free or accompanied by written permission for publication from the copyright holder;

f) articles must strictly follow the template available on the journal’s website;

g) articles must comply with the standards established by ABNT;

h) there is no limit to the number of authors, provided that all have effectively contributed to the development of the manuscript, following the authorship contribution taxonomy according to the CRediT – Contributor Role Taxonomy (https://credit.niso.org/). Contribution types include: Conceptualization; Data curation; Analysis; Data collection; Methodology; Software; Supervision; Validation; Visualization; Writing – original draft and/or Writing – review and editing.

Articles that fail to comply with any of the above requirements will be disregarded and will not be evaluated.

Peer Review Process

Revista Thésis only accepts articles submitted through the OJS system; submissions by email are not accepted. Articles that do not comply with the journal’s guidelines will be immediately rejected. All articles approved in the 1st and 2nd stages of evaluation will undergo double-blind peer review by two reviewers, who must be PhD specialists in the article’s subject. Only unpublished works that, in the opinion of the Editorial Board, contribute to reflection and debate in the field of architecture and urbanism will be published, following the evaluation steps below:

1st stage – Editors’ evaluation
Manuscripts submitted for publication will be evaluated according to the standards adopted by Revista Thésis, considering the relevance of the research topic, the scope of the journal, article structure, originality, methodology, quality of writing and graphic elements (figures, images, etc.), the pertinence of references, and the consistency of the article’s contributions. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria will either be returned for resubmission with revisions or immediately rejected.

2nd stage – Plagiarism check
Manuscripts will be screened for plagiarism using the CopySpider software. Articles found to contain plagiarism will be immediately rejected.

3rd stage – Double-blind peer review
Editors will select two PhD specialists in the article’s subject matter to review the manuscript. Reviewers will have one week to accept the invitation and 20 days to complete the review. If the reviewers fail to meet the deadline, the editors may negotiate an extension or assign another reviewer.

The following aspects of the manuscript will be evaluated:

  • Innovative contributions to debates and discussions related to the topic;

  • Adequacy of title, abstract, keywords, and article development (introduction, objectives, methodology, results/discussion, and conclusion);

  • Pertinence and originality of the contribution to the field;

  • Coherence of structure, methodology, justifications, and conclusions;

  • Quality of writing and text organization;

  • Adequacy of engagement with relevant works on the subject;

  • Scientific rigor.

Reviewers will provide recommendations and comments, choosing among the following options:

  • Accept;

  • Mandatory corrections;

  • Resubmit for review;

  • Submit to another journal;

  • Reject.

For further details on evaluation criteria, please refer to the review form.

After peer review, the Editorial Board will evaluate the reviewers’ reports, comparing them and, in cases of significant disagreement, may assign a third reviewer to break the tie. Multiple review rounds may be conducted as deemed necessary by the editors.

4th stage – Final decision by the editors
After peer review, the editors will make a final decision, choosing among the following options:

  • Accepted for publication;

  • Accepted with mandatory corrections;

  • Resubmit;

  • Rejected.

5th stage – Revision, translation, and editing
Once the article is finally accepted, the editors may require a technical revision of Portuguese, to be carried out by reviewers approved by the journal. The cost of the revision will be the responsibility of the authors.

Revista Thésis encourages authors of accepted articles to have their work translated into English and/or Spanish to broaden reach and facilitate internationalization. However, translation costs will be the responsibility of the authors. While translation is optional, it is strongly recommended.

Approved articles are published within a maximum of six months from the date of submission.
