Diogo Seixas Lopes: vital sign

Abstract

Little is known in Brazil about contemporary Portuguese architecture other than the renowned works of Álvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura and a handful of other good architects - almost all men - based between the cities of Lisbon and Porto. In part, this lack of knowledge is due to a concerted political-cultural operation whose most evident expression, in recent times, was the simultaneous retrospectives, in 2019-20, of the two Pritzkers, partners and friends in two of the most influential institutions in Portugal in terms of architecture, both based in the Porto region (Siza at Fundação Serralves, Souto de Moura at Casa da Arquitectura). There is more to the Portuguese contemporary scene, however, as shown by the recently released book by Dafne Editora: a leafy monograph by Portuguese architect Diogo Seixas Lopes (1972-2016), edited by his friend and interlocutor André Tavares (TAVARES, André and SEIXAS LOPES , Diogo.
