Getúlio Vargas hospital as an expression of power in Teresina.

Abstract

In Brazil, the emergence of the Estado Novo in the first half of the 20th century had repercussions on the modernization of several political headquarters in the country's states, including Teresina, capital of Piauí, in the face of political centralization and national unification actions. In this scenario, the objective of the article is to analyze one of the most emblematic works of the period, the Hospital Getúlio Vargas (1941), as an expression of this search for modernity linked to the legitimization of the power of the National State. The methodology is based on bibliographical research and is based on the analysis of primary and secondary sources of drawings and photographs, supports that made the redesign and 3D modeling of the work possible. Therefore, the work reinforces the relationship between the political situation and the design of significant public works in the history of Piauí and Brazilian architecture in the first half of the 20th century, which constitute relevant collections of built cultural heritage to be continually documented and conserved.
