Abstract

Contemporary cities are considered supports for artistic graffiti interventions. Every day, there are graffiti artists who manifest themselves graphically in the urban landscape. Drawings can carry symbols and meanings that, based on women's struggles for the right to the city, amplify the voices of citizens against their concealment caused by the history of social oppression. Amid this scenario, this article aims to map and analyze the non-institutional graffiti interventions carried out by women in the city center of Rio de Janeiro from 2015 to 2022. Using an interdisciplinary approach, between urbanism, the history of art and design seeks to understand women's graphic works as brands that highlight their identities in certain places. Therefore, georeferencing female graffiti can help to understand where the interventions that also constitute the symbolic landscape of the contemporary city are, can narrow experiences in physical and digital spaces based on cartography and document the durability of the socio-spatial impact of these ephemeral actions.
