Where time touches the body: memories that map the territory.

Abstract

Entering the complex, multifaceted universe that intertwines time, affect, and territory—and critically examining it in a rigorous manner—poses challenges that directly question the possibilities of knowledge construction as well as the very making of the city. This proposal presents the results of a methodological exercise aimed at reflecting on the territories that shape us as collective subjects. By intersecting the memories of seven individuals, we were able to engage in both graphic and theoretical reflection, drawing upon their various encounters and missed connections—ranging from the streets of Brás de Pina, Pirambu, Petrópolis, and Pirassununga to the scents evoking homes and places where one once lived. It encompasses family storytelling, photographs, objects, and gestures that transmit ancestral knowledge, helping us consider how oral tradition reaffirms identities across past, present, and future. Situating embodied experiences and territorialities within an awareness of unequal urban planning processes creates tension within "histories of the present time" (Almeida; Fonseca, 2021).
