Spatializing Time, Temporalizing Space
Abstract
This review analyzes the book "Montage of Montages: Presentation of the City in Transformation by Walter Benjamin," by Paola Berenstein Jacques (EDUFBA, 2026), highlighting its contribution in making visible the Benjaminian way of thinking through the gestures of collecting, assembling, and re-inscribing fragments of heterogeneous times. By rigorously following the sources mobilized by Walter Benjamin, the essay reveals a thought in operation, inseparable from urban experience and the materialities of the city. Jacques' proposed reading highlights the centrality of montages, often produced by other subjects, as the foundation of Benjamin's work, opening new possibilities for dialogue in the field of Benjaminian studies articulated with the times and spaces of the city.
