Constellations of Memory: Ruins and Resistance in the Urban Space of Uruaçu (GO)

Abstract

This article analyzes the city of Uruaçu (GO) from the perspective of the concept of the constellation of memory, formulated by Walter Benjamin and revisited by Rita Velloso. The research adopts a qualitative approach based on a constellation reading of the city, seeking to understand how temporal layers are inscribed in architectural forms and how urban space expresses tensions between permanence and forgetting. To this end, two buildings are analyzed: the former Caiçara cinema, currently unoccupied, and the city's first masonry house, built in 1910 and still inhabited by the founder's family. The analysis of these buildings, articulated with the contributions of Benjamin, Lefebvre, and Debord, shows that the city reveals the coexistence of different temporalities in urban space. It concludes that the constellation reading allows us to recognize the presence of urban memories inscribed in everyday buildings, broadening the debate on cultural references and processes of erasure in urban space.
