Inhabiting the landscape: the houses of Eyquem in Portezuelo and Radić in Vilches
Abstract
From 1979 to 1981, Miguel Eyquem Astorga designed and built Casa en Portezuelo in Colina, Chile, for his friend Luis Peña. In 2010–12, Smiljan Radic designed and built Casa para el Poema del Ángulo Recto in Vilches, Chile, for his family. Through a comparative analysis, this article seeks to bring together these two Chilean houses, distant in time but close in their care for the surrounding landscape, in order to investigate and reflect on the similarities and dissonances in terms of the formal, material and symbolic aspects involved in the conception of these architectures.
