revealing ways of modern living in the metropolis of São Paulo

Abstract

This work seeks to understand the living spaces of the city of São Paulo from its projects and the preservation of its memory. It focuses more specifically on the first modern duplex apartments seeking to understand the spatial organization of housing developments, the profile of its residents and the changes they have undergone over decades of use, with Esther and Eiffel. To do so, it seeks to approach the issues of conservation of physical spaces with the daily life of its users, based on the memories of its residents. Thus, the analysis of the projects, the survey of the profile of its inhabitants and the way in which the occupation of modern spaces takes place are the main interest. In this sense, various sources of research were used, such as photographs, newspaper and magazine advertisements, associated with the field work and the resources of oral history, in order to broaden the discussion about the possibilities of associating with the memory of the residents the preservation of these goods cultural studies, performing a more ethical analysis than the aesthetics of the field of restoration and the historiography of preservation.
